Amid the daily stresses strains of everyday life, we’ve been getting ready for Granny Would Be Proud‘s inaugural club night, it’s to celebrate their first birthday and the theme is the CARNIVAL!
For anyone who hasn’t the pleasure of stumbling upon GWBP on a lazy sunday in the west-end of Glasgow, it’s an excellent bi-monthly vintage and craft run by Fred. It’s where The Jazz started selling waaaay back in May. This night will turn into a weekly vintage-retro feel club night at Glasgow University Union (GUU), dets on facebook, called wait for it. Granny Would Be Loud. Someone loves their puns.
Anyhoo, we will be there with several teacups of gin and to partake in some swing dancing, but also mannning a wee amusement stall, The Strongman Stall. Come along and test your strength (and marvel at how weak all your friends are). You’ve got a few days to pump the irons….
Granny P says we should expect “a carnival theme, expect freak shows, fortune tellers, bearded ladies and a variety of fairground games! With musical performance from The Shiverin’ Sheiks and Dirty Bird, as well as swing dancing from the fabulous Zoot Swing, let’s make it a night to remember!”
Plus there will be Granny’s Cake Decorating Competition and a Best Dressed Award. God, I bet the competition is gonna be real tough. The what-to-wear dilema is rearing it’s ugly head, as we all know there are some excellent vintage dressers in Glasgow. Wish I had some actual time to make a dress, damn….
It’s going to be in the Hillhead Bookclub, a new-ish bar, which I’ve not been to yet but I’ve been informed they have rather vintage-inspired decor and they serve cocktails in gramophones, intriguing….Cannot wait!
8pm – 1am, Hillhead Bookclub, 17 Vincombie St, Just off Byres Road, West-End Glasgow
Oh and in other news…new pieces up on Etsy!
